FORM
WORK-IN-PROGRESS (2022)
Excerpt Run Time: 25 min
FORM is a multidisciplinary live performance integrating projection mapping, anatomy, and cultural history to examine how learned form informs social function. The piece explores four tenets—ATOM, MATTER, GRAMMAR, THEORY—to extract the confines that shape our individual and collective experiences, decoding alignment, shapes, and grooves and their implications for gender expression, appropriateness, and taboos.
Drawing from Ishita's training in classical, street, and martial arts traditions alongside their background in chemistry and biotechnology, FORM uses holistic motion analysis to observe how codified movement shapes understanding of hierarchy and belonging. This work completed a development residency with New Victory Theater's LabWorks program and includes an educational package designed for young and family audiences.
