40-MINUTE LIVE PERFORMANCE + INTERACTIVE EXHIBIT (in development)
FORM is a multidisciplinary performance installation that investigates how movement systems shape the body across cultures. Integrating choreography, motion capture, projection, and audience interaction, the work examines how learned forms encode history, identity, gender, and belonging. Blending artistic research with scientific inquiry, FORM asks a central question: How does form dictate function?
Built around four tenets - ATOM, MATTER, GRAMMAR, and THEORY - FORM combines live performance with an interactive exhibition. Audiences move through installations exploring movement, anatomy, cultural history, and creative technology before entering the performance.
DEVELOPMENT
FORM was developed through New Victory Theater’s LabWorks program in New York City in 2025. The next phase, in partnership with When Eyes Speak in San Francisco and creative technologist Varsha Iyengar, advances the work’s motion capture research and audience-facing interactive technologies for museum and multidisciplinary venues, with its next public presentation scheduled for 2027.

COLLABORATORS
Ishita Mili is a choreographer, director, and scientist whose work brings together bharatanatyam, Mayurbhanj chhau, Black American street dance, and biotechnology. She leads FORM’s artistic direction.
Varsha Iyengar is a creative technologist and researcher whose work examines data capture, vernacular movement, and emerging technologies. She collaborates on FORM’s motion-capture systems and interactive visual experiences.
When Eyes Speak is San Francisco’s first South Asian Choreography Festival, curated by Preethi Ramaprasad and Shruti Abhishek. Since 2018, it has supported South Asian diasporic movement practices through performance, outreach, and artist development, and partners on FORM’s next phase.
